ARUSHA, Tanzania, May 7 (Xinhua) -- Tanzanian Vice President Samia Suluhu Hassan is on Monday expected to lead mourners in public viewing and paying last respects to Arusha school bus accident victims.
The mournful event will take place at the Sheikh Amri Abeid stadium at the heart of Arusha city, according to Mrisho Gambo, Arusha Regional Commissioner.
He said that the Vice President will be accompanied by ministers, senior government officials and members of Parliament.
Gambo said that earlier, the event was planned for Sunday, but it was suspended until Monday to provide room for more people to take part in the event.
Severine Lasway, chairman of a school board of directors, told reporters here that death toll for the accident rose to 36 people including 33 pupils, two teachers, and a driver.
Previous reports said that there were 35 people onboard the bus, however counting after the rescue showed that there were more passengers.
A number of families in Arusha were in deep grief as of Sunday, whereby women were wailing in disbelief, while the men spoke in hush tones about the death of their children.
The final year primary pupils were on their way to sit mock examinations ahead of seeking places at secondary school.
The accident happened early on Saturday when the bus went off the road and into the Marera river gorge in Karatu district near the northern Tanzania's safari capital of Arusha.

ARUSHA, Tanzania, May 8 (Xinhua) -- Tanzanian Vice President Samia Suluhu Hassan on Monday called upon responsible authorities to review modes of transport for schoolchildren as part of the long-term measures to tame road carnage in the east African nation.
Samia made the directives when she leads thousands of mourners in Arusha to pay their last respects to 33 pupils, two teachers and a driver who were killed in an accident in Karatu District last Saturday.
Apart from sympathizing with the bereaved families, who were gathered at 12,000-capacity Sheikh Amri Abeid Memorial stadium, the vice president expressed worry over the rising number of deaths from road accident.
She denounced reckless driving, urging responsible authorities to put up more road signs in accident-prone areas across Tanzania.
"It is imperative to put more road signs to prevent such deaths," she said.
"Take all the necessary steps to ensure children are safe when boarding a school bus. This will help to rescue our children from unnecessary accidents," she said.

Profile: Nicaraguan First Lady Rosario Murillo running for VP
Source: Xinhua&&
MANAGUA, Nov. 5 (Xinhua) -- Nicaragua's First Lady Rosario Murillo, a poet and revolutionary, hopes to be elected vice president in Sunday's presidential elections, in which President Daniel Ortega is running for reelection.
Murillo, whose rebel credentials rival Ortega's, is a familiar face to Nicaraguans, having served as official government spokesperson during her husband's past two consecutive terms in office.
A polyglot, who speaks at least four languages, she is well-equipped for her role as spokesperson, but many believe she is much more than that, serving as adviser to the president.
Ortega, 70, is rarely seen without Murillo, 65, by his side.
In fact, Ortega once told reporters: "In the presidency, Rosario is 50 percent and Daniel is 50 percent."
Murillo and Ortega met in the late 1970s, when Ortega was living in exile in Cosa Rica following his participation in the Sandinista rebel movement, which overthrew dictator Anastasio Somoza in July 1979 after two years of civil war.
They have been together ever since, with Murillo by Ortega's side as he returned to lead the government of national reconstruction, and during his trips abroad to raise funds for the new undertaking.
Murillo and Ortega married in 2005, in a traditional Catholic wedding, and have eight children.
Murillo is the daughter of Zoilamerica Zambrana Sandino, the grandniece of Nicaraguan national hero Augusto Sandino, after whom the rebel movement and ruling party is named.
A published poet, Murillo has said she was driven to write after the death of her first child in the 1972 earthquake.
Born in the capital Managua in 1951, she studied English and French at universities in Britain and Switzerland, and became a language professor.
She joined the Sandinista movement in 1969, and was arrested for her activism. She also took refuge in Costa Rica, and returned to Nicaragua with Ortega after the success of the revolution in 1979.
