Fontaine Fox's Toonerville Folks (February 15, 1931)
Toonerville Folks (a.k.a. The Toonerville Trolley That Meets All the Trains) was a popular
cartoon feature by , which ran from 1908 to 1955. It began in 1908 in the Chicago Post, and by 1913, it was syndicated nationally by the . From the 1930s on, it was distributed by the .
The single-panel gag cartoon (with longer-form comics on Sunday) was a daily look at Toonerville, situated in what are now called the suburbs. Central to the strip was the rickety little trolley called the "Toonerville Trolley that met all the trains", driven in a frenzy by the grizzly old Skipper to meet each commuter train as it arrived in town. A few of the many richly formed characters included the Terrible-Tempered Mr. Bang, the Physically Powerful Katrinka, Little Woo-Woo Wortle, Aunt Eppie Hogg (The Fattest Lady in 3 Counties) and Mickey McGuire, the town bully.
Fox described the inspiration for the cartoon series in an article he wrote for The Saturday Evening Post titled "A Queer Way to Make a Living" (February 11, 1928, page six):
After years of gestation, the idea for the Toonerville Trolley was born one day up in Westchester County when my wife and I had left New York City to visit , the cartoonist, in the . At the station, we saw a rattletrap of a streetcar, which had as its crew and skipper a wistful old codger with an . He showed as much concern in the performance of his job as you might expect from .

Between 1920 and 1922, 17 Toonerville silent film comedy adaptations were scripted by Fox for Philadelphia's Betzwood Film Company. These starred
as the Skipper with
as Katrinka. Only seven of those 17 shorts survive today. Four are preserved in the Betzwood Film Archive at Montgomery County Community College, Blue Bell, Pennsylvania.

toon能否成为颠覆微信的超级App？
如果现在有人说，他要做一款比微信更接地气、通人性，商业化潜力更大的App，足以干掉微信，你肯定会呵呵一笑，然后心里暗自说“这人不是神经病吧”！其实，这样的“神经病”真的存在，思源集团董事长陈良生调侃自己就是这样的人。
要笔者说，陈良生不是“神经病”，而是“疯子”。因为，为了实现自己的超级App梦想，也为了向集团数千名员工表明自己的决心，他将集团大楼卖了6个亿，全部投入到这个App的开发、运营、推广中去。
按照陈良生的说法，思源集团完全是由他本人控股，这意味着巨大的资金投入基本都来自其本人的腰包。在外人看来，数亿乃至未来数十亿真金白银的投入，如果陈良生不是“神经病”，那一定是“疯子”！
陈良生表示，卖楼，不是因为自己缺钱，而是一种表达破釜沉舟决心的方式。陈良生透露，像思源集团大楼这样的物业资产，在北京其就有10万平米，而思源集团大楼不过才1万多平米而已。也就是说，仅仅是卖楼，陈良生也可以变现至少50个亿。
实际上，陈良生还有不少资产。思源集团旗下有中国北方最大的房地产代理公司思源经纪，2010年11月在美国纽交所成功上市，后陈良生完成思源经纪私有化，目前正筹备在国内主板上市。拥有1994年就成立的深圳思源计算机软件公司，至今连续21年雄居中国物业管理软件老大，目前正筹备在新三板上市。
做这个超级App，陈良生的前提条件是有钱。
但有钱就一定成功吗？产品不好，光靠烧钱来推动发展，这样的失败案例也很多。那么，接下来笔者就带大家看看这个超级App到底是个什么样的东西。
这个理想中的超级App取名toon，中文为“通”。意思很明显，就是要做“沟通”和“连通”的事情。这样的定位，很明显和微信“连接一切”的定位基本一致。
如果说动用上千人、卖楼投数亿元开发运营一个App很疯狂，那么花费这么多的人力、物力、财力去做一个对标微信的App，则显得更为不可思议。
微信，移动互联网时代绝对的超级App，腾讯借微信在BAT三大巨头里，第一个拿到移动互联网时代的船票。看看几个数据就知道微信有多强大：
截止今年第一季度，微信月活跃用户已经达到5.49亿，用户覆盖200多个国家、超过20种语言。此外，品牌微信公众账号总数超过800万个，移动应用对接数量超过8.5万个，微信支付用户已经达到4亿左右。据统计，微信直接带动的生活消费规模已达到&110&亿元、其中娱乐消费时最大支出，规模为&58.91&亿元。
与这样的对手对标，相信99%的人都觉得toon没有胜算。但陈良生认为，绝大多数认为不可能的事情，越有挑战的事情，往往越容易成功。做一个大家都看好的，没有难度和门槛的事情，往往并不是真正的机会。
理论上，陈良生说的没错。但toon究竟只是个花架子，还是真的有颠覆微信的潜质？
toon号称是全球第一个多身份社交的App。这一点，在陈良生看来是区别微信且优于微信的一大特点。所谓多身份社交，是指用户在登陆后，可以创建多个身份名片，针对不同的圈子，使用不同的身份名片。比如，创建一个职场身份名片，以公司员工的身份与领导同事和外部合作伙伴交流；创建一个无职业特征的个人身份名片，与交好的朋友、同学以及家人沟通交流；还可以创建一个戴起面具的无真实身份的名片，与陌生人尤其是陌生异性沟通交流！人有多面，一个toon就可以满足你多样身份的社交需求。
toon号称是世界上第一款以人为中心的互联网管理平台。在用户创建的个人名片主页，可以承载很多内容，包括照片、轻博客、推荐、朋友圈、通讯录等，既是一个个人展示的平台，当然也可以成为一个个人营销的平台。互联网管理平台还体现在toon聚集了一些涉及个人生活、工作、娱乐需要的应用和服务，也就是说未来toon想要成为一个超级App，用户在手机上安装一个toon就不用再装其他App了。
toon号称是以人为中心的多应用互联网入口。这个和上述的互联网管理平台有些交叉，主要做法是开放API接口，让众多创新公司的应用接入到toon平台，一方面解决用户在toon上享受应用和服务的便利性，另一方面解决中小开发者的流量入口问题。实际上，陈良生已经开发了政务、教育、房产等12个细分领域的toon应用，每个应用可以独立发展，也可以接入到toon的母平台。接下来，陈良生还会进行招商活动，让更多的合作伙伴利用toon的技术平台开发细分领域的toon。
toon的理想很大，与微信连接一切的理念也十分相近。但在微信如日中天的时代，如何去推广toon就是个巨大的挑战。
陈良生的办法包括：让用户受到三类诱惑，一是金钱，二是美女，三是赌博（活动）。这其实也是人性的弱点。金钱方面，会有邀请有奖的机制，给予邀请者以toon宝奖励，用toon宝可以参与抽奖；同时发起活动，给予优胜者百万元的现金重奖。美女方面，这也是社交类产品的通用做法，即通过活动、金钱让大批美女入驻App，带动更海量的男性用户使用App。赌博方面，就不展开说了，主要还是利用人们以小博大、贪婪的人性弱点。
除了这些，陈良生还有砸钱的办法：投资更多细分领域的toon，如投资100家企业，每家投1000万，共投入10亿，发展100个子toon，每个子toon带来100万用户，共可带来1亿用户。
陈良生的目标是，3个月toon的用户过千万，1年用户过1亿。
